Ovo und Antje sind am Sonntagmorgen, den 23. Februar 2025, wohlbehalten aus dem Süden zurückgekehrt und sicher in ihrem Nest gelandet. Die Freude bei Maderas und im Dorf ist riesig! Jetzt macht eine Fahrt durch Ovenhausen gleich doppelt so viel Spaß. Mit etwas Glück können wir bald sogar ihren Nachwuchs begrüßen, denn die Störche und ihre Küken sind immer ein wunderbarer Anblick.

Ovenhausen looks forward to the arrival of the next generation after female stork moves in

Höxter-Ovenhausen, Germany. To the great delight of everyone in Ovenhausen, a second stork has moved in to the new nest on Maderas Holztechnik’s company premises. “Now the breeding season can begin,” says Managing Director Ralf Lüke, sharing the delight of the local Friends of the Grube Storks group.

New nest in Ovenhausen for storks Antje and Ovo

Höxter-Ovenhausen, Germany – The stork pair Antje and Ovo can now settle in to the ready-made nest in Ovenhausen. The home for the long-legged couple is in its original location, but it’s a new construction. It’s ready for use just in time for the return of its feathered inhabitants.

A very special thanks also goes to our lucky charms—“our” stork pair Ovo and Antje—because we were very lucky that the tornado didn’t do more harm and no one was injured. The storks’ nest also suffered some damage, but it wasn’t destroyed, and we now have the pleasure of congratulating the couple on hatching two chicks.

The Friends of the Storks groups in Ovenhausen and Lütmarsen, who are working closely together on the Grube Storks project, are celebrating a great year. Michael Jöbges from Recklinghausen succeeded in ringing three young storks high up on the tall chimney in Ovenhausen; in Lütmarsen there were four young birds in the eyrie in its first year of use. There were actually five storks in the nest to begin with, but one of the youngsters was knocked out and died. “It’s extremely rare to have four stork chicks,” explained Jöbges, a volunteer at the Heligoland Institute of Avian Research.

Needless to say, village residents and the Friends of the Grube Storks are delighted. And people from outside the village are happy about Ovo’s return, too, smiling as they say, “It’s now twice as much fun again to drive through Ovenhausen.” After all, the storks and their eagerly anticipated hatchlings are always a lovely sight.
