Up on high
They overwinter in Africa. But in the spring, they migrate to us in Höxter. Every year at Maderas Holztechnik we look forward to the arrival of our feathered guests.
Since 2016, white storks have been regular visitors to the decommissioned chimney of our site in Höxter-Ovenhausen. That is why we deliberately decided against demolishing the chimney and installed a nesting aid instead.

Swallows
welcome
The barn swallows and house martins make a particularly elegant entrance. They nest in our hall in Höxter-Ovenhausen, where they diligently raise their offspring. And we are happy to offer the swallows room for their nests.
Impressions: A new home is created for our storks
In May 2022, a tornado swept across our facility in Ovenhausen. It also damaged the decommissioned chimney, where the storks Ovo and Antje had been nesting for several years. Together with the Friends of Pit Storks and other nature-loving Ovenhausen residents, we considered how we could create a new home for the storks.
We decided on a nesting aid in close proximity to the old location – a technically and structurally challenging solution. After all, we had to consider anchoring it in the concrete floor of the hall and creating a passage through the flat roof with a solid attachment of the supporting substructure. Thanks to many helping hands, the process moved quickly. In January 2023, the time had come. The prepared larch trunk from the forests around Ovenhausen could be erected with a naturally designed nesting aid. At a height of 16.50 meters, the new nest now stands tall, waiting for the arrival of the Ovenhausen storks.
